This should come as no surprise; after the initial spike in unemployment at the start of the pandemic, there are simply not enough workers. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that the number of unemployed per job was only 0.7 from September 2021.

In other words, there are now more vacant jobs than there are people to fill them. Today, many companies are stepping up their hiring efforts and trying to attract more workers with higher wages and bonuses. Yet a large number of jobs remain vacant; the BLS reported 10.4 million job openings at the end of September 2021.
